Adler Sonora and Gebr. Mönnig amalgamate their businesses.
The two East German factories of Adler Sonora and Gebr. Mönnig merged their businesses after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
The two brands continued in tandem, but a decision was taken a few years ago that they would only use the Adler Sonora brand for children’s bassoons and student instruments.
Major headway has been made into the professional world under the name of Gebr. Mönnig, and collaboration with top bassoonists of the calibre of Klaus Thunemann and Sergio Azzolini have borne fruit.
Production now includes the following types of bassoons.
Adler Sonora model 1350 / children’s bassoon
This is a new design of children’s bassoon at the ‘normal’ size, playing down to bottom C.
The wood that the bassoon is made of is a bit lighter in weight and the instrument has fewer keys, with 2 rollers.
This is not plastic, but beautifully lacquered genuine maple. The keys of this Adler bassoon are silver-plated, while the finger touches have been placed closer to each other for ergonomic reasons. The standard mounting system employs a balance-hanger, to reduce neck strain even when using a sling or harness. The wooden bell joint has been replaced by a lighter Plexiglass version to improve the instrument’s balance even further. Accessories include 1 specially curved bocal, a Roko back-pack gigbag, pull-throughs and a reed case.
Model 1357/120 Jubileum model
This bassoon has been developed to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Adler Sonora factory.
The Adler bassoon has 22 silver-plated keys with 5 rollers and 3 trill keys (F#/G#, C#/D# and E/F#). The wood is finished in a fine lacquer. Accessories include 1 bocal, a Roko back-pack gigbag, pull-throughs and a reed case.
Model 214 TOPAS for professionals
26 keys, 8 rollers, high d, high e, E/F# trill, Eb key on wing joint, beautiful flamed Bosnian maple, silver-plated keys and the typical, dark Mönnig tone quality.

Model 214 Diamant for soloists
A 5 part compact (gentleman’s) model with 26 keys, 8 rollers, high d, high e, E/F# trill, Eb key on wing joint, beautiful flamed Bosnian maple, silver-plated keys and the typical, dark Mönnig tone quality.
