BASSETTO FAGOTTINO IN G (quint bassoon)
We are working with three people at our workshop in Switzerland on the manufacture of three configurations of our Bassetto quint bassoon. A great deal of devotion and craftsmanship goes into the construction of a beautiful instrument from a block of wood.
Walter Bassetto, owner of the company BASSETTO BLASINSTRUMENTE, completed his first fagottino in 2002. His background training as a precious metal technician, instrument builder and bassoonist provided him with the capacity he needed to put his ideas for a fagottino into practice. His emphasis was on achieving an optimum bore and well thought-out positioning of the tone holes. He also regarded it as essential that his instruments should be able to be played with ordinary bassoon reeds. After a few years of building and testing, the first three models were presented to the general public in 2005 at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt.
The instruments were well received and many children throughout Europe now enjoy playing on them. The Bassetto quint bassoon sets itself apart to fine intonation, low blowing resistance and easy attack.
The enhanced model B 98 is now successfully in use as an additional instrument in bassoon ensembles for playing higher parts. Its tone colour adds a great deal. It has been made even more attractive as a result of the extra keys and lined finger holes. The fagottino has an easily playable range of three octaves.
